Site, which originated circa 2000, has been resurrected at DotEasy. This XHTML version (index.html) only uses CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) layout. Click index.htm to view revised table-layout HTML version styled with CSS.
Our circa 2002 CSS experiment (in which navigation links were JavaScript rollover “text-but” images) can be viewed by clicking js_css/index.html. As we commented then, “the varying lack of browser CSS support is frustrating; CSS falls apart in NN4.” Those wonderful geeks who diligently identify browser quirks and devise remedies are to be applauded. We are eternally grateful to them, but all the work-around “hacks” still required for CSS positioning is burdensome.
Still not sure what should be done with original #69C blue background (here modified to #7AD) matching Chrysler building sky. Consistency in layout and color design should be maintained for all pages in site, but can we sneak in a light #CDE bluish gray on pages that do not have Chrysler building? A light, neutral background with black text is easier on the eyes.
Flash, Director, AfterEffects multimedia possibilities are great, but too often access to content is denied if player does not download. Thus, we're trying a mixed bag with HTML4, CSS2, XHTML, JavaScript and ImageReady animated GIFs.
The new horizon of so-called “Web 2” is intriguing so we're sniffing technology like AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) and PHP/SQL (Standard Query Language) communication between client-side browser and server (even though we are not data- or content-driven). XHTML with CSS styling is safe water, but straight-up XML is still not well supported enough to dive in head first.
The ultimate solution must be player- and browser-independent. We anxiously await SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) — using XML (EXtensible Markup Language) and/or XUL (XML User-interface Language) so vector graphics like Illustrator can be uploaded without a player.
